Nestlé’s first vegan KitKat is coming soon!

Vegan, a term which has created quite a buzz in recent times has become one of the most talked about topics around the world. Veganism may once have been seen as a tricky diet to cater for, but now restaurants and food and beverage companies are offering vegan dishes and supermarkets are bursting with plant based food products in developed countries around the globe.

So, the rumours are true! Nestle too has joined the plant based trend as it announced the launch of vegan version of the iconic KitKat candy bar in February this year. The vegan KitKat will be called KitKat V and is likely to roll out later this year. The name ‘KitKat V’ suits the new arrival well and is quite catchy. The capital V serves as an acronym for the word vegan higlighting the main purpose of this non-dairy variety of KitKat. “Demand for plant-based food is growing everywhere,”

said Alexander von Maillot, head of Nestlé’s confectionery business. “KitKat was a logical choice, as it’s by far the biggest global brand.” Taking to Instagram, Nestlé released a short clip with a caption announcing the arrival of KitKat V and the news went viral within a short span of time.

What makes KitKat V vegan?

KitKat V was developed by chocolate experts in Nestlé’s confectionery research and development center in York, UK, the original home of KitKat. The classic KitKat bar contains non-fat milk, milk-fat, and lactose. KitKat V will be made with a rice-based recipe, which took Nestlé two years to develop.

Louise Barrett, Head of the Nestlé Confectionery Product Technology Center in York said, "Taste was a key factor when developing the plant-based chocolate for our new vegan KitKat. We used our expertise in ingredients, together with a test and learn approach, to create a delicious vegan alternative to our original chocolate KitKat." Maillot explained that one of the biggest challenges in making vegan chocolates is ensuring that it has a creamy texture. Other plant milks, such as soy, can create off-notes.

KitKat V is certified vegan product, and has been made from 100% sustainable cocoa sourced through the Nestlé Cocoa Plan in conjunction with the Rainforest Alliance. Nestlé gives assurance that the new candy still has the perfect balance between crispy wafer and smooth chocolate and the KitKat lovers worldwide will love it as much as they loved the original version.

The experts at Nestle have worked hard and applied the test and learn approach to create a delicious vegan KitKat V that would live up to the high expectations of KitKat lovers everywhere.

When it comes to chocolate, packaging is one factor that can’t be ignored and we can proudly say that Nestle has done justice to the new KitKat V in terms of packaging.  The packaging looks really vibrant with joyful colours. The word ‘vegan’ has been clearly stated on the front side of the packaging. The wrapper looks quite attractive and very well designed keeping veganism in focus.

As per reports the new vegan KitKat will be launched later this year. As confirmed by Nestle, KitKat V will be available online through the KitKat chocolatory and selected retailers in handful of markets as a test run for a wider rollout.

Even though the all new KitKat V hasn’t yet hit the markets, Nestle has been receiving positive reactions from people all around the world. KitKat lovers are all set to give a try to the plant based version of their favourite chocolate bar.

SUMMING UP!

In the recent times, the world has been moving towards veganism like never before. By launching KitKat V, Nestle has definitely taken a huge step towards veganism and this will surely inspire more and more companies to come up with vegan products and will encourage people to adopt vegan lifestyle which in turn will reduce individual carbon footprint leading to positive impact on the environment. So, the next time you have a break, have a KitKat V to add a little more plant-based in your life.
