Fruit Battery | Foodopedia101 (short-reads)
I am very sure most people are aware of the fact that certain fruits and vegetables are capable of generating electricity. But HOW? well that is what we are here to discuss about.
Fruits and vegetables conduct electricity in the same way a salt solution will complete an electrical circuit, ''Michael Hickner, an associate professor of materials science and engineering at Penn State.
The fruits can't conduct electricity on their own, They need something to drive the ions present inside them.
WHY DO CERTAIN FRUITS CONDUCT ELECTRICITY?
Electricity is conducted by movement of electrons from one point to another to produce current. The acids present in fruits, such as citric acid in citrus fruits, act as an electrolyte that allows this electron transfer. In simple words, the acid and water contained in fruits act as the conductive chemical.

Lemons conduct better than oranges:
The stronger the acid in an electrolyte, the better the electrolyte will conduct electricity making the battery even stronger. Strong acids taste more sour than weak ones. Lemons are more sour as compared to oranges and hence make stronger batteries.
